Educational & Career Planner
for High School Students

BASIS FOR THIS PLANNER

The Educational & Career Planner (ECP) for high school students in Escambia County, Florida, supports the schools’ efforts to prepare students to become lifelong learners and to successfully enter the work force. The integration of Career and Technical Education and the traditional academic curriculum addresses the need for students to be prepared to enter post secondary education and to know how to apply facts and figures to real world experiences.

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THIS PLANNER

The ECP includes information covering a variety of topics from registration to graduation.

The ECP

  • begins with in-depth coverage on selected topics and programs (see table of contents);
  • includes information on how to prepare for a successful career; and
  • gives the following information for each subject area: the mission, Sunshine State Standards, concise course descriptions, and other information on course offerings.

HOW TO USE IT

The ECP is designed to help students get the most from their high school experience. With the help of parents and others who can provide counseling assistance, students are encouraged • to study general information and become familiar with terms, procedures, and policies; • to follow suggestions for career planning; • to identify required and elective courses needed for chosen career plans; and • to study course prerequisites and recommendations and to develop personal four-year educational plans. Information presented in this book is general in nature. School improvement efforts under Florida’s system of school accountability allow schools to individualize their approaches to instruction. High schools may differ in program offerings, courses of study, and class scheduling.

NOTICE TO PARENTS/GUARDIANS AND STUDENTS

Failure to receive a standard high school diploma affects lifelong wages, potential driving privileges, and admission to vocational and college programs that ensure careers with higher skill levels and earning potential.
